- Retail Assistant
- Workshop Assistant
CURRENT OPENINGS (2):
1. Retail Assistant
Details:
- Location: at Relume’s storefront in Capitol Hill, DC
- Hours/week: 15-20 hours per week, shifts ranging from 4-8 hours on weekdays and weekends
- Commitment: Longer than 4 month commitment preferred
- Pay: $17.50/hour
Responsibilities
- Welcome and engage with customers, assist them with purchases
- Clean and restock store throughout the day
- Assist customers of all ages with walk-in craft bar (beads and watercolors)
- Processing new inventory arrivals
- Informing customers of shop promotions and going-ons, answer frequently asked questions
- Perform end of day cleaning duties
- Address and resolve customer complaints in a professional manner
- Process customer payments through Point-of-Sale system
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of store items to provide advice & recommendations as needed
Qualifications
- High School diploma required
- Proven retail sales experience
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift 25 pounds
- The ability to use labeling and pricing equipment as well as Point of Sale (POS) software
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Effective communication skills
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Detail-oriented

2. Spring Workshop Instructors
Details:
- Location: at Relume’s storefront in Capitol Hill, DC
- Hours: 1.5-2 hours per workshop, typically held once per month
- Pay: 60/40 ticket split (60 to instructor, 40 to Relume)
Responsibilities:
- Develop engaging lesson plans tailored to adult learners with diverse skill levels, ensuring every participant leaves with a sense of accomplishment
- Prepare and organize all necessary materials and supplies for workshops, keeping classes efficient and enjoyable
- Provide clear, step-by-step guidance to assist participants in mastering new techniques and completing their projects
- Foster a fun, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment that encourages creativity and participation
- Manage the class schedule effectively to ensure workshops start and end on time
- Address participant questions and troubleshoot issues with patience and enthusiasm
Qualifications:
- Previous teaching or facilitation experience in art, crafts, or a related field is preferred
- Expertise in one or more craft or art disciplines (e.g., painting, linocut printing, jewelry making, etc.)
- Strong organizational skills to manage workshop preparation, class flow, and cleanup efficiently
- Effective verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and inspire confidence in learners
- Exceptional customer service skills, with a positive, professional, and approachable demeanor
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to ensure all materials and instructions are well-prepared and accurate
- A passion for creativity, community engagement, and teaching
